Esther Pinder

Bahamian poet and author of Taking A Stand, Esther Pinder, affectionately known by her father as "Beauty," was born and raised in the quiet settlement of Little Creek, South Andros—the largest of the 700 islands in the Bahamas. As the fifth of seven children, she grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of Andros. Her childhood days were filled with walks along the beach to attend school in the settlement of Pleasant Bay.

After completing her high school education at South Andros Secondary School, Esther's life took a new direction when she met and married her husband. She became the proud mother of three sons—Marvin, Warren, and Owen—who remain the greatest joys of her life.

The Spark of Writing

Esther's passion for writing began when she attempted to write her first autobiography at age 10. While that early effort didn’t get far, her determination to write never left her. By the age of 30, she had completed a 20-page manuscript, and over the years, her life experiences—marked by love, hardship, and growth—continued to fuel her creative spirit.

After facing personal challenges, including her separation and entering the workforce for the first time, Esther felt inspired to share her unique perspective on life's journey through writing. Her latest book is a heartfelt collection of poetry and wisdom thoughts that reflect on family, marriage, motherhood, friendship, and the resilience required to face life’s ups and downs and more. Each page is a snapshot of Esther's reflections on life, from the quiet moments of introspection to the joy of reconnecting with old friends.

Poems Inspired by Life's Moments

One poem, People Watching, was written while sitting in an airport, observing the many lives unfolding around her. Another, Friendship, celebrates the reunion with a long-lost childhood friend. Her piece, Ever Stop and Think, was born in the stillness of the night, prompting readers to reflect on their choices and how those decisions ripple through their lives and the lives of others.

Esther hopes that readers will not only enjoy her work but also find themselves inspired to think more deeply about life’s many layers. Through her words, she encourages others to stand firm in their beliefs, find humor in life's twists and turns, and approach decision-making with wisdom and compassion.

A Dedication of Love and Faith

Taking A Stand is lovingly dedicated to her three sons, who have always stood by her, offering unwavering love and support, even during the most challenging times. Esther also gives thanks to God Almighty for guiding her every step and giving her the wisdom to pursue her dreams.
